The phenomenon is so well know that many cultures have their own phrases for it. “Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.” “Rice paddies to rice paddies in three generations.” “The father buys, the son builds, the grandchild sells, and his son begs.”
-
Greg Clark has done research on this and “shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations” is garbage. People do succeed in life have great great grandchildren who succeed in life never mind children. See *The Son Also Rises* to start.

People who receive money easily tend to begin to deplete it. This happens to heirs, athletes, celebrities, lottery winners, etc. If you give money to a wealth accumulator, however, he/she will tend to hang onto it.
