I don't understand what "mission-driven" really means. Everyone talks about investing in a "mission-driven" company but isn't EVERY company a mission-driven company? What are examples of companies that aren't?

That's true and a good point. Serving a critically important function in the economy (capital allocation, etc.) and being mission-driven aren't necessarily the same thing

If employees are “driven” by a mission first and foremost than a company is “mission driven.” The mission is the gas in the tank (motivation) and is controlling the steering wheel (guiding decisions and trade offs)

I would argue that banking is essential to growth and building other "Real things" with numerous examples from history. I do work for a bank, though, so kind of biased here.

I suspect also companies working on the latest calendar product are not exactly mission-driven.

What if the mission is to make sure that more of the wealth in society gets into the hands of relatively conservative white men?

Aka "doing gods work"

Is it not mission driven of you don't agree with the mission?
