      If we bring down the prices of housing, healthcare, and education in the United States the majority of our financial ills go away. Everything else is getting so cheap.

      Healthcare is by far the hardest of those. It will be the thing that remains expensive when everything else gets cheap. In a "post-scarcity" society, health will be the one remaining scarce thing.

          Predictive health will help reduce that cost

          yeah you'd have to pick a line and define it as "healthcare including xyz"

          or "healthcare excluding $xyz", where $xyz == end-of-life-care

          Real estate is a tough one too because it takes space, which doesn't become more abundant with technological innovation.

          Well, fixing archaic medical and drug patent laws helps a whole chunk in that regard - and costs nothing but the will to do so. As does licencing.

          I think bringing down the cost of education may be just as difficult as healthcare. Housing affordability is quite different -- it's not expensive because it's hard to build enough homes, but because we use price to ration the most desirable homes.

          What’s the principled reason healthcare should remain the exception here?

          When all other needs are met there's no reason to not spend every incremental dollar on healthcare

          Thankfully diet and lifestyle driven interventions (e.g. @livongo @virtahealth etc.) are more cost-effective (and more efficacious). These tools are becoming less scarce as adoption of digital health accelerates.
