What if, instead of having to posit that large swathes of the world have all simultaneously acquired persecution complexes, it was the media that had changed? Surely that's not unlikely, considering social media now drives traffic, and outrage drives the most clicks.

What changed was the perception of the overall contribution of Tech to society. It's not a change in the media, but in society.

It's both. Media absolutely has changed and become more political, they no longer just report the facts they also tell the reader how they should think about them. On the other hand the social media algorithm and gig economy is killing society and needs to be held to account.

Used to be that only top politicians could get the level of attacks that now anyone with 10k+ followers will regularly get on Twitter. It was always intense and unkind and now many more who didn’t want it are getting it. But unclear how this changes. It’s a reflection of humans.

I agree that being targeted on Twitter is intense and painful and there needs to be a better way to disagree. What concerns me is the belittling of reporters who often spend great time to do reported stories (Washpost and NYT investigative pieces are good example but lots more)

You both have points. Seems like there’s a lot of complaining and it seems like media may be getting worse but that’s an empirical claim. I rarely see evidence beyond the anecdote presented alongside a claim of media bias. So that could be improved
