I don't know what was the cause, but wealth signaling is for certain way lower in Scandinavia than in US.
That's because showing off is looked down upon, not because people have better ways to find such answers.
Why so sure? Scandinavians have norms against showing off, Americans do too. Maybe the relative strengths are to blame, but maybe it's something else.
I doubt it actually is the tax return thing, though. The past few years we've had to log in so that everybody we stalk can see we're stalking them. That pretty much rules out checking everybody you know.
