Yesterday I asked what random skills people had. Surprisingly common answers: picking the right Tupperware container, catching falling objects, knowing the number of letters in words, guessing people's weights, knowing the time without looking at a clock, swatting flies.

Probably. Many of these anachronistic skills still exist. Like body-building for men. Serves zero functional purpose today but thousands of years of natural selection make it innate.

Bad example, sir.

I have often wonder if modern widespread myopia (in the literal sense) is a symptom of genetic selection pressures being removed, or staring at books (now screens) from a very early age. Likely both...?
-
I’m not sure whether it’s staring at screens or lack of staring at far points.

It's true, hunter-gatherers needed to store their kill/harvest in the correctly-sized Tupperware.

There's a part in "Why We Sleep" by
@sleepdiplomat about natural night owls (30% of population IIRC) vs. early birds vs normal sleepers. Basically humanity is still hard-wired to have people who can stay awake to guard the tribe at night.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

At an individual level, us humans haven’t changed much since we were hunter-gatherers. What really changed is our ability to collaborate so effectively to achieve the things we’ve achieved since then. Its called the cultural evolution.
