One advantage of Twitter over interviews is that reporters are limited to misrepresenting you. They can't misquote you. (If you think journalists don't fabricate quotes, notice that it's number 3 on the list of things Jim Lehrer refused to do.)pic.twitter.com/uvaVyQoRZS

Jim Lehrer enumerated it on a list, therefore it is something that the most of mass media does. QED

Reputable journalists do not fabricate quotes. That's a very fast way to burn sources and find yourself out of work.

This is also true. The prudent celebrities among us would simply not interact with non-reputable journalists.

True, but does nothing with #2, and they have a lot of #2 in this sense as well as its more common meaning.

The earth is moving below the feet of journalists today. Their desperation means a willingness to break more norms of the past

Makes one automatically think of out-of-context clickbait headlines. Sometimes the whole article may carry on the same way. Misrepresentation is as bad as it gets. Media owned by politicians doesn't employ journalists, but spin doctors.

I used to write press releases for a PR company (on behalf of their customers). The first job I had I was told to include. Few quotes. When I asked how best to get the quotes I was told to make stuff up and we’d get the customer to sign off on them later.

This is standard practice in PR and so long as your customer approves should be uncontroversial. This is not journalism.
