oh no a bunch of startup people are tweeting about a plane as if it's a operational supersonic aircraft when actually it's a scale model and it doesn't fly

It's not a scale model. The xb-1 is a different design. And it will fly after it completes ground tests. No new aircraft design flies before completing ground tests.

You're usually pretty good on tech questions, but you've really got the wrong end of the stick on this one. No one is claiming the xb-1 is the airliner, and rollout followed by ground tests followed by flight tests is exactly the same procedure used with every new plane.

Why do you think some people have negative reactions like this, versus others who have really enthusiastic reactions?

People often put down efforts to do new things because they're threatened by them. But I don't think that is the case here. I think Gabe just has no idea how aircraft production works, and his misunderstanding of it led him to believe Boom was trying to mislead people.

i usually disagree with paul, but agree here. rollout of an aircraft is a huge and public milestone for any airplane. and it occurs way before it actually does first flight. The 777-9 rolled out on September 2018 and first flight was on January 2020. lots of testing in between
