Forget left/right, liberal/conservative etc — the ultimate political spectrum is Puritanism / Pragmatism. This growing cancer of political polarisation is fed by ideological puritanism *on both left & right* that’ll destroy society if pragmatists don’t stand up to it fast

Disagree with this. The most obvious case is with masks and how the pandemic has ravaged conservative leadership due to the puritan dismissal of the severity of the pandemic.

When the left is puritan about something, the most obvious issue is about aestheticism, not necessarily about underlying validity. 1. Is rising inequality a worrying problem... yes. And Sam Harris(a moderate) tackled this as early as 2011.https://samharris.org/how-rich-is-too-rich/ …

Yes, I’ve started to notice that more and more too (which as a left-leaning person is horrifying to admit). Although there’s def sampling bias on twitter, I’ve found the most spiteful vitriol & absolutism comes from that direction. It’s embarrassing & self-defeatist.

There is a terrible mistake to think that politics is divided between left and right. "The left" is one single political ideology, while "the right" is every one among a huge variety of political ideologies, PLUS the absence of political ideologies.
