Read this thread to understand how our elites are now held hostage to the ideology of "wokeness." They are given a strictly approved vocabulary and any deviation is punished. Every misstep leads to an endless cycle of self-denunciation, apologies, and pledges to "do better."https://twitter.com/darrenwalker/status/1310659341687586818 …

In a recent interview, I used the term “tone deaf” inappropriately & out of context from its literal definition. I am deeply sorry for using this ableist language & apologize to the millions of people with disabilities and the disability community.

On the other hand, it's pretty cool that SJWs will no longer be able to accuse people of being tone deaf. That used to be one of their favorite weaselly accusations. What phrase are they going to use instead?

The next step is for non-literal use of the word "see" to become taboo, e.g., "I see what you mean." For years, activists have condemned this as "ocular centrism."

First and foremost, deaf people's case isn't even advanced by this because these wokies are just cherrypicking on words and play offense game on behalf of people they don't know or feel pitty about. Maybe they also shouldn't say to other people they have a blind spot :P

I’ve seen people complain about “blind spot”. The tweet I saw doesn’t seem to exist anymore, but here is someone mentioning ithttps://twitter.com/shadowcat_mst/status/1183880331100872704 …

So, not linking because nutpicking, but saw an ableism argument for replacing blind spot with dead angle. Which ended with: > Dead angle, use it til other people conform. Separate from the argument, one wonders if they understand how "until other people conform" comes across.

When I see people grovel and apologize for some minor infractions it strikes me as the exact opposite of the behavior one would see in a healthy friendship. These people are not close friends with each other
