Believing the party that wins the popular vote "really" won the election is like believing the soccer team with the most minutes of possession "really" won the game. Goals win games, so that's what teams focus on. Electoral votes win elections, so that's what campaigns focus on.

Hard to believe a sensible tweet like this will change anyone’s mind about 2016.

I think there are two different conversations here. Yes it's true that winning the 2020 election goes through PA etc. But if this popular vote vs electoral vote skew keeps happening (2000; 2016) it brings the legitimacy of the process into question.

I think a reform that would help both in general and in the case of presidential elections is ranked-choice voting. That way 3rd parties will not act as 'spoilers' for major parties with overlapping goals.

Incorrect. The goals are votes. The current American election process is a soccer game in which the final tally of goals is only a suggestion for which team wins.

Thoughts on a YCombinator in Texas? Texas is shifting blue and you can help.
