I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. This will set a tone and culture at Coinbase that ultimately will push away talent and even customers you need to build "your mission" if financial equality is truly your mission.

It won't push away people with strong convictions, just those who like to browbeat their colleagues about them. I.e. the aggressively conventional-minded (http://paulgraham.com/conformism.html ). But people of that type tend not to be good at building things anyway.
