Just realized that Jessica and I have donated more to defeating Trump than to any other cause. Which sucks. As in literally sucks huge amounts of money away from important problems. This is a hidden but very significant cost of increasing polarization.

I think you're wasting that money. Trump is the symptom, not the disease. Defeating Trump will not restore sanity, civil mindedness, or equanimity. That's the real pathology, and your money would be better spent trying to treat that.

You could do them in parallel. It's just that the US political system offers an obvious way to get rid of Trump in 34 days, whereas there is still little consensus about the most effective ways to decrease polarization.
