Just realized that Jessica and I have donated more to defeating Trump than to any other cause. Which sucks. As in literally sucks huge amounts of money away from important problems. This is a hidden but very significant cost of increasing polarization.

Do you think your donations (or spending) had any effect? One lesson from 2016 seems to be that money may not matter nearly as much as we think it does.
There is great variation in the effectiveness of money spent. We've gradually gotten better at it.

You don't want to donate to the campaigns directly. They don't spend money effectively. You need to actively seek out, or create, projects that will. And they must measure and optimize everything they do. It's like big cos vs startups.
