Just realized that Jessica and I have donated more to defeating Trump than to any other cause. Which sucks. As in literally sucks huge amounts of money away from important problems. This is a hidden but very significant cost of increasing polarization.

I think you're wasting that money. Trump is the symptom, not the disease. Defeating Trump will not restore sanity, civil mindedness, or equanimity. That's the real pathology, and your money would be better spent trying to treat that.
It's true he's a symptom, but symptoms do have to be treated too, and he's a particularly bad one. I have some ideas about how to address the underlying problem. But first things first.

I would suggest that any such ideas are important to articulate and publish ASAP, for any of us who have them. Ideas give rise to other ideas, and to solutions that can eradicate underlying pathologies. Society doesn't have to be like this, but only individuals can change.

He's really not that bad. He says some crazy sounding stuff, and he doesn't have the polish we normally expect from a President, but he got through the biggest Middle Eastern peace deal in many decades, hasn't started any new wars, and put together some good trade deals.
