Stripe is signalling they're already in the same category. The IPO is just a box to check.

You would think the VC investors @danprimack mentioned wouldn't want the compounding risk associated with a VC backed company doing VC deals. Then again, Stripe doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon
At least Stripe is already profitable (im assuming). Ginkgo Bioworks (a synbio company that i’m pretty sure is not yet profitable) has raised so much money they’re using some to invest in various spinout companies
