A significant fraction of advising early stage startups is reassuring them when they're already doing the right thing, but worry that it's a mistake because it's not the conventional thing to do.

Is the worry caused by the startup being at an early stage or the founders’ lack of experience?

Leads to what ends? >We won’t be sure it’s right until it’s working when timing is right. >We won’t put it off if we can’t keep trying. Doing it with faith and right way and be motivated by it/vision.

@paulg I wonder how much of this hand-wringing comes from their perception of what's 'conventional' to begin with. This is something I'm working on, particularly for African startups - helping to surface commonly-used but little-celebrated Ops tactics, over at @RabiaAfricaOrg .

The faster horses vs cars worry antidotes: 1. Are the conventional ways of measuring “need” deep enough ? 2. Are the conventional alternatives tackling the underlying “need” close to ideal ? 3. Does the startup have the focus on solving for the need (of the need)^3 ? Perhaps.

I hope that advice is to "talk to an expert"...because navigating that alone crushes a lot of founders and impacts their business as well.
