Building a Center for X is popular with people who want to seem like they're doing x, but it's rarely the optimal first step to actually doing x. Get to work now, and only build the center when the lack of it is the main thing holding you back.

The people doing x often wonder why the people building a Center for X have never worked on x.

Thats how Govt operates is our country. Build a big ass center for doing X, rarely anyone actually builds.

Worse - when there are already multiple orgs within an org doing X sub-optimally, and one is designated "Center of Excellence for X"

Public funds going to the Center for x simply looks better in itemized budgets than them going to some guy who works on x.

Most people building Center for x are in “Build it and they will come” mindset

A “building for X” has too often been the maskirova for yet another real state development “investment”, with clear short-term gains for the promoters, capturing funding opportunity costs away from executing the X project. When the building is the focus, that’s a major red flag.
