Why not unfollow instead of mute? What is the likelihood of un-muting someone after said strike?

Agreed. Just did my first... And elegant solution.

I used three strikes (including verbal warning for each infraction, stating the coming penalty) on all the forums I adminned. Worked well in that context. On current social media, that would be impossible due to invested time. One strike and a mute is more than fine.

I would like to mute for X time. If I keep muting for X I'll probably unfollow.
-
Facebooks “mute for 30 days” is probably the only thing that keeps me on Facebook.

Haven't muted, only block a lot. What's the upside of providing ammo to and exposing yourself to getting attention from bad actors whose content you're never interested in seeing?
-
I tend to mute because they just disappear afterwards. When I've blocked I found someone screenshot it to make a point out of it, and that's probably a lot more likely to happen if you have thousands of followers.

1 is an event, 2 is a coincidence, 3 is a pattern.
