We take for granted censorship of movies and TV shows that we'd be shocked at in books. Do we give books a pass because they're the way the elite communicate? Or are books ignored because the audience is so much smaller? Probably some of both.

I was thinking it's mainly because of the audience size. but that specific comparison made me realise it's probably also because in movies and TV shows, characters are played by real people. In books, they are all imaginary.

Neither would be censorship. It would be private organisations codifying a preference.

Books are sorted by genre, though. You can't win a poetry prize with a novel, or win a translation prize if the original is in English. But movies are, in part, defined by the actors who participate - making it at least a bit more reasonable than your analogy implies.

May be censorship inversely proportional to no. Of product available in market. Since no. Of Books are much higher than film or TV show .

I think it's a stretch to think that folks think that it's par for the course. It's ludicrous and have seen most say the same.

I was under impression that the Oscars decision was to help POC get acting jobs. Book characters don't need to pay bills ;-)
