When the neo-traditionalists tweet photos of contemporary traditionalism (e.g. Poundbury), they always seem to evoke a sense of strangeness and dread and I'm not sure why.

I think it's because they're just as "command and control" as the modernists they're criticizing, but they try to hide it in "look! everybody is smiling and mom has a pie in the oven!" imagery.
