Of course, but is it really the carpetbaggers and haters that are responsible for Silicon Valley’s loss of joy? Seems like most of it is the natural scrutiny that comes with success combined with the mindbendingly fast shift from 90s/00s era “cheerleader” tech press to today
Saying that if you were responsible people would still dislike you as a defense to being accused of being irresponsible seems very irresponsible
What do you mean by haters here? Silicon Valley has had huge problems with diversity (among other things) and now some of those are at least being acknowledged. Is the happiness of a privileged few better or a more fair playing field for all, more responsible progress?
“Carpetbaggers” isn’t a great word either. The historical connotations are ugly here, but ignoring this, the contextless meaning—opportunists from elsewhere—is pretty much what has always powered tech startups. What can he mean?
