Ideologues are usually on a vector aimed towards negative outcomes. They're willingly heading in the wrong direction. Best not give them any attention.

If we're being kind of honest though, ideologues spot social issues faster than moderates ever do. The solutions they propose may be terrible, but they have a far better grasp of current affairs than moderates. Issues like inequality, gerontocracy...

Elite Overproduction, upward redistribution of wealth, etc, were basically all issues the ideologues brought forward. The extremity of their belief seems to be coupled by the fact that there is a staunch insistence that those weren't issues to be tackled in the first place.
