How much of startup success is normal people willing to have a not-normal life? As opposed to not-normal people doing 9-5? Bit of both?

Long hours and not having a life may be required for founders and people with significant equity but the heart of the matter is it becoming company/industry culture and employees having no choice but to do that as well, for a salary.
