"Overture is a craft designed to seat less than a hundred people at 'business class' levels of comfort. And for 'business class' prices, they’ll be able to fly from, say, Tokyo to Seattle in four hours and thirty minutes."https://www.engadget.com/boom-supersonic-xb-1-2021-130025910.html …

The reason Boom will be able to fly passengers supersonically for the price of current business class is that the flight times are so short that you don't need lie-flat seats. There's a lot of advanced tech in this plane, but that mundane fact is the key to the economics.

Very disappointing that the article barely even touches on robustness I think we will find that supersonic aircraft will be cost-inefficient or even unsafe with respect to maintenance, if widespread commercial flight is the vision.

If Boom is successful, would it result in higher prices for economy flights? Currently (pre-covid) business-class passengers subsidise economy-class, but that subsidy will be gone.

Wasn't this the idea @elonmusk popularized with SpaceX some years ago? Great idea startups are pursuing this! Now just make it affordable

How many times did this “reporter” take snide shots at Boom and Scholl, I counted at least three. Let’s go Boom!

Why would anyone want to fly to Seattle?
