This list seems so good that it's worth asking what life is the opposite of what it describes, so that you can avoid it. The opposite would be working for a large organization dominated by bureaucracy and politics.

People hoping to create large organizations (i.e. ambitious startup founders) should probably spend some time thinking about how not to create the worst possible environment for thinking.

This list is basically my guiding star. I can’t imagine another way to live.

Would you know of good ways to avoid it? I've seen the culture erosion happen in some good startups, especially after hiring senior executives (who have not started up themselves)

Do you think that there is a certain size where bureaucratization becomes inevitable, no matter how thoroughly the organization's culture was designed to resist it?

I think bureaucracy is a good thing in large organizations. Imagine Microsoft quietly working on the new Xbox for 6 years and an intern ships the new Xbox website. If anything, I think the role of managers in large organizations is to protect the deep work of individuals

Organizations (large companies or part of large companies) over time become infrastructure maintainers rather than builders. Both are important and have it's own place in the economy, just make sure to find the right place to work at.

Paul - I completely agree with you but how can you scale without creating mid to large organizations. If you have some examples and stories, please share.

Good point Paul. Thanks for triggering some bravery and focus. How might we best break down how to create an environment conducive for thinking, productivity, growth? Growth in terms of our people before/through the growth of their* products. @nireyal your top 10? * (autonomy) 🦚
