Mine too! My family and other animals! Gerald Durell. I also like Laura Ingles Wilder , PG Wodehouse, Jerome K Jerome and Henry Rider Haggard. I think I ended up with 12 cats because of that book.

I started reading it as an adult, but it's seems like a young-adult book, difficult to pick against other classics. At what age did you first read it?

That was such a great book! I remember reading it for an English class in secondary school.

Haven't read it yet but watch the Corfu tv series. Will add the book to my list!

Reading that book is like wrapping oneself in a warm blanket on a cold night.

It would make any list of my favorite books. It’s beautiful, hilarious, and enlightening all at once. And I can’t read it without literally laughing out loud!

Durrell's books were wonderfully in the present... They weren't about morals or inspiration (not that those aren't important, they are). They were just someone having fun in the here and now. As someone given to constant worrying, I found them a source of comfort.
