Larry Ellison invested in Theranos, but mostly its Board consisted of America's Deep State, and a pretty impressive slice of the Deep State at that: the guys who'd won the Cold War.

Except for Draper leading the seed round, which was fine.

Draper showed almost pathological commitment and support for her and the company long after the fraud was exposed. It was bizarre and unsettling.

No one I know in the biotech world here in Silicon Valley thought they were credible and in fact we use to get engineers applying to our little startups from the Theranos which at the time didn't make sense (and was a deep sign of something being very wrong)

In fact, back then, I was super curious as I noticed their board was full of politicians and non-biotech people and I would ask these engineers and scientists why they wanted to leave and they were very open and would say they weren't being listened to and thing's weren't working

Theranos was an attempt by a few people and companies to do it in SV style - but without the mindset and experience
