Feel like in 2020 we're right in the middle of the internet storm. It's hard to say now "social media was a very good thing!" but once it's over and we learn to deal with it, I think most people will be much happier.

Social media will be decentralized via more open protocols like XAMPP once crypto gets to it. This will open the door to significant innovation through market competition. People will join the networks that aren’t trying to turn them into outrage clickbait machines

just a couple ideas, but users having the know how and ability to a) block out the toxic parts of the platforms [for me this was installing an addon to block the newsfeed of facebook and discover on twitter] and b) better ability to manage the discovery algorithms (youtube)
