Conservatives don't have brown shirts. The only way an individual can express a contrarian political view on the ground in Portland, at this point, is if they are prepared to use lethal force to defend their life.

"Being on the right side of history" of an issue has almost never been the majority viewpoint. There is no metric to know you are surely "on the right side of history", but historically, the "correct" moral stance to take has mostly been lonely. Consensus is dangerous.

If everyone has a voice, but don't know how to use it Is that still freedom?

I think it's more like: technically everybody has a voice, but a significant proportion risk having their livelihoods completely destroyed if they use it. And it's not freedom.

I can’t imagine that is healthy for the body politic. When you force anything underground it metastasizes. Sigh - come on people let’s not throw away 244 years of progress. I am afraid no one is going to be happy with the results of the path we are on.

Is there really any stance in which there is a consensus ?

While I am not american I just laugh on how patronizing that article is. Like author is definitely sure that lefts are both good guys and winners and rights are sorta losers that deserve some mercy

In Ukraine you could sometimes see such rhetoric towards russian terrorists/collaborators and it freaks me out if that's really how american lefts see american rights.

Someone from the liberal end of politics, I do feel a threat in sharing my political opinion on my social media and in group conversations. In India, the right is weirdly intolerant. If you are a women, they will send you rape threats, if you're a men they'll lynch you.
