@paulg . A lot has happened with USPTO since 2006 including Michelle Lee fr Google being director, AIA, etc. From your viewpoint, has the competence of USPTO wrt software or value of patents to startups changed +/- in last 14yr? -

I agree with you on how the system is broken in many ways. Fwiw, some countries safeguard against patent trolls by mandating "working requirement" to hold patent owners accountable for not commercializing the idea. Crazy how US doesn't use it cuz it's the hub for tech innovation.

And thank you for sharing the essay. Was interesting to understand things from a startup's pov. Really enjoyed it although some of the points were uncomfortable because I usually draft software applications myself.
