I'm amazed at how much wider/more engineered some gravel logging roads out in the middle of the forests are, here in Oregon, compared with single lane roads similar to that, where I lived in Italy

Yes, the issue comes in with large-scale agriculture, and implements of husbandry used nowadays tend to have large physical footprint and heavy loads leading to mechanistic failure of the pavement for thin paved roads - narrower roads weaker (shoulder interface.) ...

... of course large-scale agriculture of the industrial kind is more injurious to the landscape and environment than a road IMO
