Part of teaching one's kids to think for themselves is teaching them that they can't express all their opinions openly except to trusted friends. This is not just a feature of our time. It's been true at every point in history.

Would you say it is important to let them burn their fingers at this before teaching this or teach it to them early so that they are careful from the start? Maybe this is a question for all 'teaching things to students'.

To be fair Elon does too. Depends if you are in a position to influence. Or if you are in position that gets drowned by the noise and be stoned to death by the mob... For the rest of us we have to rely on the justice and election system.
