I've heard several people say that cancel culture isn't censorship, because people who get cancelled aren't prevented from speaking. This is technically correct, but only technically.

This will help re-elect Trump

I think it's a significant part of what got him elected in the first place. Not just because people on the right who were alienated by it voted for him, but also because his opponents were divided. Much if not most cancellation is the extreme left going after the moderate left.

yip, you've just explained cancel culture. It's only used pejoratively.

As Voltaire would say, "Pour le encourage les autres."
-
Corrected and more context, otherwise it doesn't really mean anything when read in French: > Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres. Translates to: "In this country it can be good to kill an admiral to encourage the others"
