Lots of people are saying that remote college classes at regular prices are a bad deal, and this may be true. But there is also the opportunity cost. Much, maybe most, of the value of college is in-person interactions. Every semester of remote is one semester less of those.

Which subjects are deal breakers?

It used to be that ‘stem’ was the golden ticket (i.e., useful); now, even some of that has lost value. Realistically, if you study Mathematics, Physics, CompSci, or most forms of Engineering, that should justify the (otherwise high) cost.

It’s actually more complicated than this - It’s also about who’s teaching you which is a complete crapshoot. There are still good people in academia but it’s like Russian roulette with 5 bullets and one empty chamber

Particularly at elite universities, you generally have plenty of choice about which classes and instructors to choose or not choose.
