It’s not a perfect heuristic, but I assume I’m dealing with a pseudo intellectual when I hear correlation ≠ causation.

Indeed it has become such a cliche that a reasonable investigation of causality given the correlation often seems to be missed (an ironic statement given my avatar, I realize).

It was at the height of the war of independence, but, Pearson, the eugenicist, only makes a racial slur related to the Irish - "Notes on the History of Correlation, Pearson (1920)". He makes a correction that his attribution of correlation to Bravais should have been to Galton.
