But isn't a part of any idea defining its limits? What limits on free speech? Any?

Let me spin this. People who have mainstream ideas aren't interested in censorship, for the same reason someone living in super-power wouldn't be interested to hear about another country not attacking it. People defend someone's idea when the idea is popular and doesn't need it.

I’m glad that for the most part, we are fighting a culture war and not a mechanical war. Freud said that the first person to hurl an insult was the founder of civilization. We’ve evolved such that our ideas have become our infrastructure; & censorship blows up bridges and roads
-
If you'll pardon the aside, I would be interested in a concise identification of the belligerents in this newly prescribed "culture war", as well as an earnest exploration of the merits of each side's position.

"Interested in"? I find the topic fascinating and important. Doesn't mean I'm 100% pro or against 'censorship'.
-
Maybe the opposite is true though: people who are *not* interested in ideas, don't care about the existence of censorship. They'll usually never encounter it in their lives.

Aren't all people interested in ideas? A tendency doesn't exist without data, and means nothing without explanation.
-
No, not all people are interested in ideas. Get out of your bubble.
