"Cancel culture" is something that does not exist but is a very popular concept among people who do terrible things and don't like being held accountable

If you make a general point about the suppression of ideas, you'll always be accused of supporting some idea that is currently being suppressed. Because there is always some idea being suppressed.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything here. But the way to support free speech is to defend your ideas or those of people you agree with. It’s not to attempt to insulate people with bad ideas from criticism through an empty concept like “cancel culture”

When people are being cancelled, it's generally not for their actual ideas, but due to some idea being falsely attributed to them by deliberately misrepresenting something they said. So if you defend their actual ideas, you and the would-be cancellers are talking past each other.

I'm not sure why everything has to be an abstraction. If someone is being treated unfairly, explain why. Don't hide behind tropes.

With all things you need to process the moment and use. Too many people in Trump's camp use that as a white power sign. If you are a public figure with experience speaking you know exactly what you are doing. As Hart did in this instance.

Freedom of expression and freedom of association. Not cancel culture. "I get to say what I want and no a of you can criticize it or choose to not deal with me anymore due to it" is not free speech. It's the denial of free speech of everyone except you.
