Journalists used to have a monopoly on the news. This power bred restraint; whatever their private feelings, they avoided overt personal attacks. Now this power and the consequent restraint are both evaporating. Now they're just Twitter users.

The period of so called objective journalism only existed for about 30 years of the post WW2 era. It's actually an abnormality.

You will find (perhaps in these very replies) that plenty of folks on the right AND left would argue that period wasn't actually all that objective anyway.

Would be nice if media could admit to itself it has a POV but was fair to those who disagreed with that pov.
