Ask yourself “What will inevitably exist?” Then filter by things feasible within the next 10 years. Then filter by things that you are capable/can become capable of doing. Then pick the idea that you find most interesting.

@paulg so bottom up if you’re young? Top down if you’re old? -
I like this way of thinking.

Do what seems interesting is good advice. Probably even for people who aren’t so young.

I have read the high school article 20 times. Unfortunately for high schooler or a college dude. The passive social media subsumes most of their free time. I think the culture needs to be created for it.

Agree with paul here. Spend your 20’s building and testing new ideas. Don’t go in blind but be willing to build and test with limited info.

Seems like "if you need a startup idea right now" should be something you can fund or get funded. I've found there are 'startup people,' and there are people for whom a startup is the path to solving a real problem in the markets/ society. They tend to be very different.

I feel like the argument would be that most startups start as interesting projects, hence why it’s worth sticking to working on what you find interesting. My original Tweet is a fun thought experiment I like to do to get ideas, and I tend to enjoy idea exercises.

Sometimes the best ideas come when you’re struggling with part of the project you’re “supposed” to be working on. This is OK and won’t happen if you don’t start!

The downside is that you might be interested in things with no commercial value. If what you love doing is engineering, you’re golden. If what you love doing is philosophy, you’ll have a much harder time.
