The future seen by VCs is a self-fulfilling prophecy — they're not predicting the future but "forcing" / accelerating it.

Who invests in a company can surely affect outcomes. Sequoia leading your seed round, or getting into YC will almost certainly be more advantageous (optics, network, etc.) than a random unknown fund or accelerator, of course most is still in the hands of founders.
