It is three phases 1) Gain ability to broadcast whatever is top of mind with zero friction 2) The most radical 10% also gain ability to broadcast whatever is top of mind 3) And what is top of mind for them is making it high friction for you to broadcast whatever is top of mindhttps://twitter.com/paulg/status/1278257317402808320 …

It's the most bizarre phenomenon, isn't it? Making speech easier ends up decreasing freedom of speech for the reasonable, because it gives the unreasonable a way to attack them. Obvious in retrospect, but I wouldn't have predicted it.

It leads to a paradox where either a) reasonable people need to be at least somewhat unreasonable to stop the unreasonable b) or fully unreasonable people take over Darker implication is that being too reasonable may be an unstable equilibrium. At least without some new ideas.

Another possible solution is for reasonable people to stick together and help one another. Despite being quieter, reasonable people tend to be more powerful in many dimensions, because unreasonable people can't build anything.

Ironic, given how many times we've been told, "all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

That's true, but it's a very narrow form of unreasonable. It doesn't mean blind to evidence. Rather the opposite if anything.

Gentlemen, what have you been stopped from saying? What opinions have you longed to express that would jeopardize your jobs? I’ve followed you for a while, and I haven’t seen the persecution you’re describing. Seems to me reasonable people are mostly going about their business.

It’s true that it’s easier for unreasonable people to broadcast their own opinions, and there’s a certain competitive advantage to unreasonableness in cutting through the noise, but that’s quite different from what Paul’s friend described.
