Big Foot, being murdered while taking a bath, my house burning down In the middle of the night and not having any clothes, tornados, police sirens, snakes coming out of a toilet, cancer, Russian soldiers. You know, the normal stuff.

As a kid, if there was one thing I remember being truly afraid of -- was cows. I could not fathom why a horned animal would be allowed to roam the streets freely (grew up in a small town in India). As I grew up though, things changed.

It often seems to be something to do with animals, which makes evolutionary sense.

I was always scared of my parent finding out I was keeping this secrets from them. I am still scared though, would def. demoralize both of them.

Great idea, how do you help them once you know the issue?
-
Depends on what it is. Usually the fear is mistaken, and I give them a very specific explanation why (rather than just saying "Oh don't worry.") E.g. one son at 3 or 4 worried about dogs getting into our house. I pointed out they couldn't because our doorknobs were all round.
