What are the best books about building really, really, really great products?

Vasari's Lives of the Artists I'm quite serious. In the Renaissance, before art as craft got separated from art as ideas, artists were the ultimate craftsmen.

Can someone tell me which edition of "Lives of the Artists" is the best? (Ofc this is subjective, but would love some suggestions).

If there's a Penguin Classics edition, that's usually the best.

There is, of course, a Penguin Classics edition, and it's a good rule of thumb. But there are interesting and significant exceptions. The Landmark Thucydides, for example, is better than the Penguin Classics -- not a better translation, but a better edition.

Seems like the title has been abbreviated to artists from a whole manner of endeavours. https://www.amazon.com/Lives-Painters-Sculptors-Architects-ebook/dp/B0082X45TE … Channeling my inner Leonardo tried reading it upside down.

Holding a mirror to it and reading from the mirror would be the real deal 😂

I went with Penguin Classics and am happy with the decision. Here are some screenshots:https://twitter.com/philmohun/status/1278808059989524480?s=20 …

Reading Vasari’s “Lives” and struck by how similar the first 15-20 years of life were for most great artists: - Encouraged by parents - Diverse early education to test aptitude - Placed with a dedicated master for several years Does this model still exist today? If so, where? pic.twitter.com/1tSzvNyuY5
