Later-stage investors who disparage seed investing as "spray and pray" don't realize that "pray" can be replaced by "help."

This product distinction is great. I’d never heard this angle before.

The challenge here is that the 'money' and the 'founders' often have different agendas. Sometimes the difference isn't significant, other times it is. I work on the side of the founders, never on the side of the investors - although I believe that ultimately helps investors.

I actually agree with Paul’s take on this... the problem is similar to benevolent dictators/kings. It’s great when it’s advice and help but horrible when startups vision is massacred / hijacked by “helpful” investors.

And go to market strategy + relationships are huge at that stage. A single customer can change the trajectory of a seed stage business

Unfortunately we have too many seed investors who drive founders to optimize for financials too early. I think it’s damaging. These folks aren’t really “seed” investors, they’re Series A VCs hunting for a deal.

@DelJohnsonVC yup. I see this every day. Wrenching to witness.

Absolutely agree. I also look deeply at the founding team — growth mindset and team dynamics, as wells as, their unique view of the market opportunity based on life path/experience.
