There's always room for new languages, and there's probably room for new editors too, but I wouldn't try to force these ideas together too hard. If they fit together naturally, sure, but beware of wishful thinking.
It's not so much that PLs need a vacuum as that they're not a product in themselves. Which means you're cramming this project together with developing some product.

I agree with PG that languages and products are distinct - it's possible to build a product around a language, but a language itself is in some sense just a way of thinking. I believe the biggest advances *will* come from some kind of editor/language coevolution though. :)
