Simple rule of thumb. Don't trust anyone who wants ideas suppressed. Trusting people to be mature enough with ideas is the only way to go in a world where everyone has ten Publish buttons in their pockets.

Actively suppressing ideas brings resentment amidst the suppressed, which works counterintuitively by making the holders if the idea more stubborn about it. Passive suppression works the best. Your ideas die when no on wants to listen.

Sometimes ideas are suppressed as part of the natural order. Not all ideas have merit or add value. For instance: flying spaghetti monsters absorb sentience on a flat Earth.
