I can think of little more dangerous than demonization of the press. Doing so is a common tool of authoritarians and despots. Recognize widely varying individual motives, biases, and abilities, sure. But blanket demonization is at the root of many of this country’s problems.

They have historically been a real force for good, and many still are. And there's a chance that the recent decline isn't permanent — that's there's some post-clickbait future we can't see yet.
