Something I didn't realize as a kid: If you learn something that matters a lot to you, you'll surprisingly often have to teach yourself. I had to teach myself Lisp, how to write essays, and how to start a startup. I had examples to work from, but no teachers or classes.

That’s what I mean. When people want to learn they will find a way and absorb at an incredible rate, classes or not. When forced by a set curriculum that often doesn’t have meaning, it is far less effective. My kids mostly choose everything they want to learn. It’s wonderful.

My 5 year old knows more about flowers than I do. My 9 year old only recently started to read properly, since covid, but now spends hours everyday reading (proper) books.pic.twitter.com/asO91SNBY3
