Politics should only decide the answers to questions that can't be answered by research. If you want a heuristic for detecting extremists (on both the far left and the far right), this could be the most effective.

Sorry for lack of clarity. I guess this is what I wanted to say: 1) Scientists are responsible for delivering the data - i.e., the answers to questions. 2) Politicians are responsible for making decisions. The decision-maker is the one with the skin in the game.

Therefore: the one with the skin in the game will decide what are the relevant questions and answers and what to do with them.
